I started this blog in January of 2012. At first, it was just a creative outlet, a place to experiment with recipes, food photography, and blogging. Here’s what it looked like way back then!…
I went through phases of various ways of eating: no constraints, low carb, back to no constraints, cutting out sugar and wheat, Paleo (no sugar, no grains, no dairy, no legumes, no alcohol!), and finally I settled into a way of eating that works for me, for good. And by that I mean that it’s easy to live with forever, keeps my weight at a pretty steady healthy number, and keeps my body and mind feeling good!
I began the last phase of my journey in 2014, when I lost 30 pounds in about five months. Then, in 2015 I did three months of Whole30 (30 days of ultra-strict Paleo), and over the last several months have worked out more details about what works for me and why. (It’s sort of Paleo-ish, but not slavishly.)
Somewhere in there, I began to want to share my newfound way of life with others: I felt so much better, I was excited to help others learn to enjoy the same health!
And I feel that it’s a journey God’s been taking me on. In early 2016, He nudged me to get serious about turning my ideas into a book, and bringing a group together to keep me accountable and give me feedback. From March through October of this year, I met once a month with several wonderful ladies who read my first drafts and gave me pointers and encouragement.
When I started, I wasn’t sure what shape the book would take. It became clear that the central focus would be the story of the Israelites’ journey out of Egypt to the Promised Land: that became a wellspring for topics and inspiration for our own journey toward freedom and health. It is about weight loss, but it’s also about achy joints, lack of energy, and foggy brain. It’s also very much about dealing with the discouragement and guilt we feel over our helplessness to make permanent, meaningful changes. And moving forward!
Now I’m ready to share the second draft with more people.
It’s (tentatively) titled “Filled With Good,” based on a verse in Psalms that talks about how God satisfies the thirsty, and fills the hungry with good things.
If you live in the Wichita/Andover KS area, you can join me as I lead a group of women through my book in the spring of 2017. The group will meet once a month, the first Saturday of January, February, March, and April at Hope Community Church in Andover.
